What We Got Here

Music City U.S.A. with T. Tommy Cutrer and C.W. McCall

T. Tommy Cutrer was a well-known Nashville radio personality and the host of a syndicated radio show, Music City, U.S.A.

During the week of 1975 November 17, T. Tommy’s co-host was C.W. McCall. C.W. was promoting his second album, Black Bear Road. Through the course of that week’s five shows, T. Tommy interviewed C.W. on a variety of topics; C.W. told stories behind many of the songs on Black Bear Road, how C.W. became a reluctant country music star, and just what the “C.W.” stood for.

T. Tommy had two other guests that week: a 17-year-old singer, Jackie Blackman, and Zoot Fenster, the man behind “The Man On Page 602”. T. Tommy didn’t play just the songs of C.W. McCall, though: he included works by other country singers of the day. Those songs included

The audio files of this week of Music City, U.S.A. have been digitized from a set of transcription discs of the radio show, and post-processed to reduce surface noise (but the process isn’t perfect, so expect to hear some clicks and pops).

The package includes five CDs: 4 audio CDs of the shows (for your CD player) and a fifth CD (for your computer) containing MP3 versions of the selections on the other four discs.

All of the discs are CD-R, with the disc name lovingly handwritten on the top of the disc, and each disc a clear “slim” CD case with an insert which lists the contents of the CD. (This is an amateur operation; what did you expect? Jewel cases and machine-printed labels?)

And, as a special bonus, an actual printed index to the contents of the discs! Plus, if you act in the next millennium, you’ll get a free copy of How To C.B., an instructional album of dos and don’ts on CB radio usage, narrated by Leif Jensen.

On How To C.B., you’ll learn

  1. Types of CB Radios
  2. Rules of the Road
  3. The “10” Codes
  4. CB Handles and the Trucker Language
  5. Ratchetjaw Practice Exercises
  6. Testing Your CB Transmission
  7. Requesting Assistance
  8. Rhythm of the Language
  9. Safety on The Road
  10. More CB Terms
  11. CB No-No’s
  12. Wrap-up
